A two day workshop and documentary project for girls that explores concepts of love and identity in a world dominated by social media.https://themotherstory.eventbrite.com
Led by filmmaker Lizzy Sanford and women's work activist Melinda Alexander.
After a day of discussion and arts and crafts, participants are invited to share their stories in the making of a documentary film. The film will be a short (5-10 min) documentary that aims to share the stories of young people and how they communicate on the internet, in an effort to close the communication gap between generations. Young women are under enormous pressure to live up to unrealistic standards determined by media and advertising. This pressure has evolved beyond magazines and films; it is now constantly around us, available each time we pick up our phones. The project aims to create a safe, cathartic space for girls and women who are interested in discussing both positive and negative effects of social media on their lives.
This workshop is free and sponosored by Lizzy Sanford--award winning filmmaker based in Los Angeles. She studied intellectual property at NYU’s Gallatin School and worked in the music industry before finding filmmaking. Her first film PALISADE won best short film at the Evolution Film Festival. Her second short HIP HIP HOORAY premiered at SXSW in 2016 and was awarded a Vimeo Staff Pick. Her third, RUBBER HEART premiered at Sundance Film Festival in 2017 and was also released through a Vimeo Staff Pick. Her commercial work includes clients like Bulgari and Dolce & Gabbana. Lizzy is a vegan for climate change and a champion of women's rights.
**parents are invited to stay downstairs where there is a large space with free wifi and there is a Starbucks directly next door. But we want the girls feeling comfortable opening up so parents should plan to drop off and pick up their children.
